Below is the info from last years camp, info on this years (23rd -31 Oct I think) event will be posted as soon as possible.
Trapperskamp, the Annual Dutch Scouting Survival Challenge for those aged 14-20 is being held this year in Netherlands, Luxemburg & Germany. The Challenge will be held from 11th to 18th October. Peter Munnoch from Scotland won the Trapperskamp Trophy last year in the same area with Scots taking all of the top places. It would be great to do well again this year. We need to defend the Trophy.
Applications are invited from those in Scotland interested in being involved. In previous years there have been participants from Angus, Banff & Buchan, Dundee, Edinburgh, Fife, Lanarkshire, Moray, Perth & Kinross, Renfrew/Inverclyde and West Lothian involved in the camp. The event is organized and underwritten by Cairneyhill Explorer Scout Unit, part of the 83rd Fife Scout Group.
Participants should be physically fit, good at navigation and used to hiking with full kit. Experience of backwoods cooking, sleeping in plastic bivouacs and undertaking assault courses and rope bridges would be an advantage, although training will be given, where necessary.
This is an ideal opportunity to participate in an International Scouting event and to meet and jointly participate in an event based on traditional Scouting skills. An ideal event for your Explorer Unit and a chance for them to make links with those their own age in another country.
During the week participants (in teams of two, three or four) complete a hike with various activity bases en route. Activities may include abseiling, archery, mountain biking and canoeing. There are also numerous assault courses, river crossings and other physical challenges. All cooking is done on wood fires – with a variety of traditional Scottish and Dutch recipes as well as bread to be prepared. Points are awarded for each activity, each meal and for a logbook that needs completed daily. Badges are awarded to all those who achieve a 60% score throughout the week. The hike will also count for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at either Bronze or Silver level.
