Beckham calls for young people to speak out
Former Scout and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham has called on UK young people to take part in UNICEF’s Junior 8 competition, a young person’s version of the G8 Summit.
In July 2008, leaders of the eight wealthiest countries in the world will meet in Japan for their annual G8 Summit. The agenda includes tough issues like child health, infectious diseases and economic development.
Beckham encouraged 13-17 year olds to enter the competition to win the chance to represent their country at the J8 Summit, which is also being held in Japan.
The J8 will provide young people with a platform to speak out about the global issues that are important to them and to voice their concerns to some of the most powerful leaders in the world.
The winning team will get the chance to present their global proposals to the G8, jointly written with other young people from the G8 nations.
