Trapperskamp, the Annual Dutch Scouting Survival Challenge for those aged 14-20 is again being held this year in Netherlands, Luxemburg & Germany. The Challenge will be held from 11th to 18th October and applications are invited from any member of the Explorer Scout Section in Scotland interested in being involved. The clip below shows some images from the 2005 camp, held here in Scotland

The event lasts a week and during that time participants (in teams of two, three or four) complete a hike with various activity bases en route. Activities may include abseiling, archery, mountain biking and canoeing. There are also numerous assault courses, river crossings and other physical challenges. All cooking is done on wood fires – with a variety of traditional Scottish and Dutch recipes as well as bread to be prepared.

Points are awarded for each activity, each meal and for a logbook that needs completed daily. Badges are awarded to all those who achieve a 60% score throughout the week. The hike will also count for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at either Bronze or Silver level.

This is an ideal opportunity to participate in an International Scouting event and to meet and jointly participate in an event based on traditional Scouting skills. An ideal event for your Explorer Unit and a chance for them to make links with those their own age in another country.

The cost of the week-long activity will be around £200 covering all transport, activities, travel insurance and food and this includes a visit to a theme park in Belgium.
