Since 1993 the Scottish Scout Mountaineering Group have been organising expeditions to the greater mountain ranges of the world. So far we have visited 6 of the 7 continents with the aim of summiting each highest peak. We are now embarking on the final stage of the Scottish Scouts Seven Summits Project by organising an expedition to Antarctica.
Our goal is to climb Mt Vinson, 4867m, the highest point on the continent. We are inviting members of the Scout Association who will be over 18 by December 2009 to join us in going to the top of the bottom of the world!
The trip will encounter 24hr daylight, extremes of temperature and wind but will reward you with fantastic views over a pristine ice and snow covered landscape along with the opportunity to land on an ice runway in a jet cargo plane with no brakes!
For those of you who don't like the extreme cold but still fancy seeing penguins and will be 14-25, we are organising an Explorer/ Network trek round the Torres del Paine region of Patagonia. This trek will visit one of the most stunning and remote areas of Chile.
Both trips will run for the same duration over the Christmas 2009 period. The trips should last approximately 16 days depending on flight dates.
For more information about this and previous expeditions or for an application form please visit our website www.sevensummits.org.uk or email Keith Armour, the expedition leader direct at
