The Explorer Belt - Poland July/August 2009 - ALL PLACES FILLED

The Explorer Belt is the chance of a lifetime opportunity to undertake an international expedition over 10 days that brings a real understanding of a different country, its people and its way of life. Often described as the “antidote to the package holiday” I can guarantee that it will change your life forever. The Explorer Belt is open to scouts aged 16 – 25.
Over the past few years, Scottish Scouts have forged strong links with Scouts in Southern Poland. Following a very successful Explorer Belt in 2006, a return visit to Scotland in 2007, plans are under way to return to Poland in the summer of 2009.

We will be flying from Edinburgh to Krakow on Monday 27th July and returning Monday 10th August. During our stay in Poland we will be visiting the concentration camp at Auschwitz, as we feel this is a very important part of social and personal development.

The Explorer Belt requires Scouts to undertake 10 small projects and 1 large one. This will be fine tuned once the groups have been sorted.

Itinerary (rough)

Arrive in Krakow, Poland. Stay in the Old Town area next to Wawel Castle.
Explorers can stay an extra night in Krakow to see sights and visit the Salt Mines.
Explorers depart in groups of 3 or 4 on first part of Explorer Belt.
Explorers undertake Explorer Belt for next 9 days.
Explorers arrive at Wapienica Scout Centre and meet with host Polish Scouts.
Explorers undertake the decoration of a “Scottish” room in the Scout Centre.
Explorers and Leaders leave Wapienica for visit to Auschwitz and airport.

Costings (rough) £400

This cost includes all flights, transport in Poland, insurance, meals and accommodation in Krakow, a daily allowance for the Explorer Scouts and accommodation and meals in Wapienica Scout Centre.
Travel to and from Edinburgh airport and any extra costs over and above the daily allowance for the Explorers are not included.
