 WHAT IS IT?

‘Meggernie Midsummer Madness’ is a 24hr non stop activity event over the summer solstice weekend aimed at members of the Explorer Scout Section.

It is a fully programmed activity being run from Meggernie Outdoor Centre in Glen Lyon, Perthshire.

As the event is some way off we are still in the process of finalising our list of activities, however, some of the activities which are currently planned are canoeing, canyoning, rock climbing, messy games inc. It’s a Knockout, environmental activities, karaoke, disco, archery, team games, water slide, service projects, circus skills, grass sledging, nightline, Tyrolean crossing, incident hike, crafts, massive wide game, food challenge, campfires, mountain craft, survival, scouting skills, and surprise challenges, to name just a few…

The camp will start on the Friday evening, with some gentle team building activities then the real fun starts at 10.30 on Saturday when the 24 Hrs of non stop activity starts. This will run until 10.30 Sunday morning but will include watching the sunrise and taking part in a ceremony on the hills surrounding Meggernie at an ancient and mystic spot!! Participants can then rest until 2.30 when tents must be taken down and cleared away, ready for a 3.00pm finish.

The camp is under canvas (i.e. in tents) and is based round the idea of a lightweight camp. Dinner on the Saturday along with breakfast on the Sunday will be provided, but participants will be expected to cater for themselves the rest of the weekend.

The cost for the event is £25 per participant. This includes Saturday BBQ and Sunday breakfast, but all other food and travel are not included. Places will be allocated on a first come (paid) first served basis, but we are hoping to have space for all those who apply.

The organisers would welcome any Leader / Network member who want to come along and run a base. A form is enclosed with the booklet for any who may wish to do so. Bases can be anything you like. We're after a good variety of stuff to keep the Explorers interested. It can be active & adventurous, craft based like cake decorating, ready steady cook, knitting etc or mental like crystal maze, team building etc. Everyone has got something to offer, so please volunteer to help (and get some of your other Leaders to join you), the more Leaders we have the better!
